You have DAS on every one of your hosts?

No, the other hosts are nowhere near 11TB.

But my other hosts replicate their VMs to the host that does have the DAS attached to it. So I don't need to touch the other hosts. I don't care about those hypervisors, just the VMs on them.

Curious question: how is your DAS connected to the host - USB, e-SATA, USB3, SAS, JBOD ?

The business class options are SATA, SAS and FC. But almost always SAS, and then FC.

            It's SAS.

The card I got was the PERC H810.
            A cable like this.

Make sure you verify the connector of the DAS first. Newer models will not use those connectors. This was on a MD1000, very old.

MD1000...old school! I know those units. I've got 2 of them in storage gathering dust!

I have 2x LSI 620J. I might just connect it with LSI 9207E HBA

A separate SAN or NAS for an SMB deployment? It's an overkill. And a SPoF. And a lot of other things. I would go with two clustered servers and DAS in each. Since it's Hyper-V - you can use S2D https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/storage-spaces/storage-spaces-direct-overview to convert DAS into a single shared storage pool for high availability, fault-tolerance and failover. If you are aware that S2D sucks on less than 4 hosts - go with StarWind https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-virtual-san-free (installs directly on bare-metal Hyper-V, works great on only two hosts) that does the same as S2D and is free. VEEAM for backups. That's it 🙂

If you don't mind the 3 gbps bus, the MD1000s are amazing.
