                  I can understand why they feel that way. Wayland has no network transparency so it’s going to be a full Remote Desktop session of some type (VNC, SPICE, etc.).

                  I think they possibly just worded it strange.

                                            Unique interface (they make their own), and nearly everything is their own apps. So the whole experience is pretty unique.
