      Apology if this has been asked. I searched but did not find.

      Does anyone have a suggestion on how to limit browser tabs? We run citrix xenapp on vmware and the redit, spotify, msn, facebook, porn hub, name your favorite time suck memory and bandwidth hog website are killing us.

        How about blocking those sites upfront?

            Yeah I'd just block the content at the firewall if it's killing your system performance.

              How does limiting browser tabs reduce bandwidth usage?

              Problem = people wasting time on non work related websites.
              Solution = HR writes people up/fires them to reduce abusers.

              Bad IT solution = traffic shaping to reduce bandwidth used by offending websites.
              User work around = use proxy website or VPN to bypass firewall policy.

                Thanks all. This one needs to go back to where it belongs. Report it to HR and their manager and let them decide what to do. I do my parenting at home, not at work.

                  @popester

                  Can you create custom rules, like make VIP users, perhaps reward good behavior

                  Enable those sites at break times ?

                    Totally not worth the time it takes to figure out let alone implement.

                      I agree. IT should never control that stuff. IT should just report it. "Look, bandwidth is tight, mostly because of these non-business services." And let HR do what they want with that.
