This is pretty cool! I have a pile of old pictures my dad gave me, and a flat bed. For some reason the effort never seems worth taking. Definitely cool.

Yeah, my next vacation to home, I am going to spend some time to get those old photos!

A major advantage here is that you can snap just a few whenever you have time. When you have to use a scanner, most people want to make sure they have a fair amount of time in front of them so they can accomplish most if not the entire task. Now, got 5 mins, OK let me take a few pictures. @Ambarishrh said in Google Photoscan: Yeah, my next vacation to home, I am going to spend some time to get those old photos! And in your case, assuming there isn't a scanner where ever vacation is, now you don't have to bring anything other than your phone. Heck, you could teach your parents to do it easily enough.

I have a scanner,... okay,.. four really. But the dedicated Scanner can also do negatives, which if you had an automatic negative scanner this is better. Sadly - about 90% of my photos from years ago are gone.. I wished I knew where they were... but I'll not know... I do a decent amount of digital now,.. but there is the draw back on that is they never get printed..
