Best Dynamic DNS service for home

I've had the same IP at home for the past like 8 months, and have whitelisted that IP on many client firewalls. Of course, I upgrade my router to a new firmware, reboot, and get a new IP. Shame on me for not using a DDNS service sooner.

What does everyone use for Dynamic DNS for their homes networks?

NO-IP.com has a utility that works great, all you need is a Windows system to run the application, and it will keep your IP rotatable to a DNS record.

You can use one you own, or a free one from the listed options.

I use dyn.com

The best for me is duckdns.org free and really easy to use.

You can install it even in a Raspberry Pi.

I use afraid.org supported in the Ubiquiti EdgeMax line.

Well that was easy. For others looking to setup the EdgeMax line of routers with afraid.org (Assumes eth0 is your WAN port)

configure
set service dns dynamic interface eth0 service afraid host-name <host>
set service dns dynamic interface eth0 service afraid server freedns.afraid.org
set service dns dynamic interface eth0 service afraid login <username>
set service dns dynamic interface eth0 service afraid password <password>
commit
save
exit

Check for status:

show dns dynamic status

Force update:

update dns dynamic interface eth0

I used to have the same issue. I had all my services hosted in my network, and would rely on my unreliable Isp connection. I would normally use dyn.com to manage my name. That made it easier. But ultimately the best thing was when I moved my equipment into the DC. I have a static IP, and a much better Isp connection. I also use screenconnect to remote so any rules can be set based on my dc, and not my ever changing ip at home.

How much are you paying and what equipment are you housing in the DC?

I paid what ever the basic rate is for dyn. When I had them.

For the server in the DC.

I was running a win 2012 r2

I provisioned 3 cpu, and 4 gb of ram w\60gb of raid 10 storage.

I was hosting my:

Comodo endpoint security interface
Ubiquiti controller
Spiceworks
Screenconnect

That config cost me $105\mth

I have since broken apart the windows server and have 2 ubuntu server vms one is running Screenconnect and the other the Ubiquity controller.

I will be splitting the rest of the windows server apart more. I just need more time.

It will cost less with that config because the windows and cpu liscense cost is twice that of the Linux cpu cost.

There is a $5 fee per static ip which will cost a total of $20 alone for all the servers.

I think the one I have set up at a client's is like $40 - $50 per year.
