Having a giggle to myself. I still have the old Spiceworks profile page. I'm holding out on the "upgrade" as I don't like the newer version. I have no idea when it changed but I'm certain that I've held out for at least two years

It used to be (almost) necessary, especially if you wanted to improve performance. A custom compiled Kernel with a few config tweaks would dance circles around stock at times... That isn't so much the case any more, fortunately!
