      Alright, here is another one....

So I have a couple of beefy UPS's that I would normally load their monitoring software on a Windows server, and the UPS would tell Windows to shutdown when the battery reaches a certain threshold after a power outage. So, how can I mimic this in Xenserver?

That totally depends on your UPS vendor. How do you handle it in VMware, KVM, Linux, Solaris or any other non-Windows enterprise platform?

Last i checked, UPS support in Xenserver 6.5 was having a physical Windows box with XenCenter installed and hooked to ups. that box would detect power loss and use xe commands to shutdown your guests and hosts. that is how i set it up here a few months ago.

That would work for Windows-only UPS units. Most should talk to other things, though, since enterprise datacenters don't have Windows everywhere for that stuff.

Yeah, that one I'd expect. They've always been Windows-only.

But if we are dealing with APC PowerChute, even thought officially APC does not provide non-Windows tools, they don't need to as Linux talks to it natively.

                http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/debian-ubuntu-centos-rhel-install-apcups/

This should work for XenServer as well, if it is APC.

I was under the impression that you could use apcupsd for linux?

I am also wondering about this.

                        I have a non-networked Eaton.

Well, the software that came with this UPS is Windows only.

But perhaps something else will work.

They were really trying to push the higher end units to get the additional software and ability to install a network card. But we had a thread back in the day saying that probably could be worked around.

Not sure that works with my UPS. (The 5S.)

The software is one of the selling points of the higher level UPSes.

@scottalanmiller are any of the Eaton peeps still here?

                                          @BRRABill what about using http://networkupstools.org/index.html

                                          It supports the eaton 5s
                                          http://networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html?manufacturer=Eaton&model=3S

It should be in the Epel repo.

@BRRABill We ended up with a 5C I think, great stuff for the price. So long as you can get it connected (usb/serial), you should be able to use apcupsd to monitor it. Eaton does have software available for Linux, but the one I installed is only monitoring and a GUI (I have it installed on one of the virtual machines.)
