There has never been a promise or timeline made for the mobile apps. Anyone expecting anything on that front is operating in their own little fantasy.

That's the main use case of softphones, though. Like 95% I would guess. Softphones for the desktop are way more niche.

I totally disagree. Softphone on the desktop is by far the largest user base thanks to call centers.

Softphone on mobile is a far second to that.

Maybe overall, but for FreePBX? FreePBX is pretty rare in call centers, AFAIK.

It was apparently a setting under Connectivity > Run in Background

With it disabled I'm able to register the account without WiFi.

      That is just so odd.

Yeah, it was the only setting that made any sense under the connectivity option. Might be a bug, but seems odd that with it disabled, you can register the account. With it enabled and WiFi disabled, you can't register the account.

Now integrating the PBX with SalesForce is a great idea, and can let it do lookups for CallerID or even cause the salesforce appmto issue a pop up or some such.

As I've done some research today, I believe this is the kind of thing they want -- specifically a popup with information about an incoming call.

Definitely would seem to be a PBX feature, not a endpoint device feature. A softphone is pretty much a desk phone just inside your computer via software only. I wouldn't expect a dumb phone on my desk to have this ability, but I would expect my PBX to maybe be able to accommodate this.

The only other option would be is if SalesForce is the PBX, but then, there's still a PBX involved.

Call disconnected when other extension picked up.

Sounds like no audio device present (e.g. sound card with autosensing but no microphone connected) then. Unless there is some late negotiation involved with direct rtp setup and no common codecs.

However it looks promising and is open source. I only messed with it for a few minutes.

      Myths of VoIP:

No 911 Is not secure Requires dedicated Internet Needs special network configuration have to buy all new hardware (or any new hardware!)

      Seriously? ...

Serious that those are myths of VOIP? yup. I hear those all the time.

      Same here.

@thwr Just happened last night in fact when i gave a presentation to a SpiceCorp.

Really sad. But there are so many myths (and half-knowledge) in and around IT...

Seems to be the majority more often than not 😞
