I think it still runs Linux, so yo could probably do most of that. However that kind of defeats the purpose of being centrally managed.

VyOS, it is extremely capable. We've been on VyOS or its parent Vyatta for a very, very long time.

Ya EdgeMax is, does the USG run VyOS?

Yes, they all do the same stuff under the hood.

Ok, I didn't realize that. But like I said, I think needing to dig into the cli on the USG kind of defeats the purpose of having everything centrally managed by the controller.

I thought I mentioned it's not about fully managing, it's more about the reports/graphs.

Yes it's a bit more expensive...

    Ah I missed that.

Yea that is what I followed and it didn't work. 45 minutes later I realized this is because this is an isolated stack of switches that is not plugged into the domain yet..... Hard to get a time when they cant talk with the ntp server!!

    facepalm

Glad you got it sorted out eventually. 🙂

You really have to love those moments when you are starting to get really frustrated then 30 seconds later you think "Oh my, I am a f-in idiot."

I worry if I don't have at least one of those a day, lol.

I am looking at upgrading my infrastructure soon. Has anyone had any experience with Extreme switches?

Not yet but they look like what we will move to when we upgrade... Eventually

We have a business unit that uses them They are always having issues with HMI/PLC logic stuff working over them. Normal data works fine but Extereme nor them have figured out what the deal is.

@oschaudhary FAN hasn't been updated in years (well 2 years)

https://download.centreon.com/ has a more up-to-date nagios core and centreon front end, moving from one to the other is a @@@@@@@@@@ but its much better supported by the community and has a better update process.

Its missing nMap by default I believe but its easy to add in 🙂

Whoa! @akp982 is back! Dude haven't seen you around in forever!

    http://www.balticnetworks.com/ubiquiti-unifi-switch-48-port-poe-switch-750w.html

who indicates on their site that it does support Layer 3.

As part of patient satisfaction I think we should have one. If we put it on it's own internet pipe the cost would be less than $100 a month, but we are moving soon to a new 100/20 pipe from a 10/10 pipe... so we'll have plenty of bandwidth, and with the limitations that creative mentions kinda makes it a non issue.

we have 100/100mb pipes. But if you give a mouse a cookie... that bandwidth can be used up in no time if you let it be.

It's like the mechanic: "This guy brought me this car, and says there's something wrong with it." Then he asks his buddies, "how do I find out what's wrong?" His buddies say "ask the owner, they can tell you..." - so, the only useful answer here from us at this point is to find out what the problem is before you can "fix" this unknown issue.

In any case, those V1910 switches are rebranded 3Com tech - they are not very forthcoming with information if something is going wrong. They are the cheaper business line units.

Honestly, I would just export the configuration, reset it, plug into each port individually and perform some tasks like large file transfers, video streaming, chat sessions, etc. and keep an eye on the logs in the console.

If they can't tell you what's wrong, how can they expect you to fix it?

You could probably sell it on eBay for $25 or something, if that's not worth it to you, try Craigslist, and if no responses, take it apart for fun or donate it to a school or something if it still works.

I don't know who will be reviewing these..

I like my S3300-28G. The two 10GBase-T ports on the switch are nice to have.

@Hubtech Why no POE? I think that's probably so if you buy a switch it's easier to sell you APs and Phones latter. I love POE but if you aren't using it the switch will be slightly less power efficient. Probably not to much though since there is no actual load using the power rails for it.

I wish that they were not PoE too. Makes them unnecessarily expensive and draw too much power.
