+1 for primary application platform on Ubuntu.

If you mean what I think you mean, I use Centos for General server stuff, basically a server that can handle anything or can be more than 1 thing, however for Ubuntu and cause of the snaps, I use Ubuntu for specific roles like :

      File server
      Or
      RockChat server

      For specific purpose roles.

Ubuntu switched to Unity, which is as bad as it gets. GNOME was WAY better!

No disagreement there. But that Unity is the worst and Gnome is better doesn't say much for Gnome. I still put it towards the bottom of any list of desktops. Especially with KDE taking back the lead in quality for the big, heavy desktops from it.

Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, LXDE and several others come way before Gnome for me.

Thankfully desktop environments are all a matter of preference. 😛

Suse is great. It's the big German distro that is the dominant Linux in Europe. It's very much on par with Red Hat as being fully supported and enterprise ready.

Oh, well that is to be expected. You are still basically virtualizing the application. You can't reasonably ask an app to run on a non-native platform with native performance.

@JaredBusch if you go into the config file fixing the LAN IP is trivial. Easiest config file ever.

I told @mike-ralston that downloading any Linux isos via mirrors is not a good idea. Torrents for those are infinitely faster and more reliable.

I tried moving us to a TS environment about 4 years ago - I couldn't get past the thin clients 'flashing' on websites that used Adobe Flash. When moving between screens on our EMR of the time the whole window would flash white before going to the next screen. I posted about it on SW... someone posted a reason why (can't recall now). Never had the problem when using a Windows machine as a terminal into the TS.

In the end it worked out since our current EMR strictly forbids TS.
