iphone Red i in red circle - of doom (in the calendar)
-
I have a physician's phone that isn't correctly syncing calendar appointments with Exchange.
This is not a new problem, but one that is constantly plaguing me.
As you can see I have the red i on all the calendars, yet I have no idea how to clear them or what the problem is.
Searching Google has said something about pending appointments - but that doesn't seem to jive here.
Thanks for any suggestions.

So apparently @coliver has seen something similiar, though he might not have had the red i's.
No one has ran into this issue where iPhones will randomly decided to not sync random calendar entries?
-
Oh... odd I missed this thread. No I don't have the red "i"s that you have. When it stops syncing users don't realize for a few days until they go to look at or put in an event. Then things from the last couple of days aren't there and they email me wondering if "the internet is down". To fix I remove the account and re-add it.

I've been on the iPhone since the 3gs series.
I can't say that I have ever seen the issue you are dealing with. But my first thought would be to drop the account from the device, power cycle the device and re-connect the account.

If this was a once and done type of thing I'd be happy with that solution, but it's not.
Randomly at one point or another almost every phone attached to Exchange has lost random appointments - it's not like it's not syncing at all, just a random one here or random one there it's not syncing.
For example, this morning one physician informs me that one appointment in the middle of his morning was missing from his phone - it was clearly there in outlook, but it wasn't syncing.
I added a test appointment to his afternoon and within 15 seconds I wanted it appear on his phone.
I then deleted the broken appointment from Outlook, and created a new appointment with the same information, and like the test, within 15 seconds it was now on the phone.
Problems like this happen I'd say to at least one physician every other month. Needless to say they get very upset and think there must be something wrong with the system.

For all I know, the Red i has nothing to do with the problem, and it simply something I see currently on the device.

Ah, I haven't seen any of this on any of our iOS phones. Sorry.

I know this post is from six months ago but did you ever find a solution to restoring your calendar? Or getting rid of the red "I" in the circle?? My exchange seems to be working fine but I have no access to my calendar on my iPhone. Thanks!!

Only solution found - delete exchange from iphone, reboot - make sure there is nothing left behind... then re add exchange.

I think the red i circle is just the "Info" icon that you can click to view details about that specific calendar. If you open the Phone app and view Recents, each entry has a blue i circle next to it that you can touch to open details about the call.
Have you tested the syncing function from the phone to Exchange? It might be interesting to see if an event created using the phone's Calendar app will immediately sync to Exchange.
Other potential factors:
-
Are the users syncing Public or Published calendars, Shared calendars, or Sub-calendars? If the user doesn't have Owner permissions to the master calendar and all subcalendars, or if the user's calendar was set up as a Public folder or Published to the web, then syncing might get a little wacky.
-
Are the events that get "stuck" created by an account delegate, or added to the user's calendar by someone who is not the account holder or a delegate?
-
Are the non-syncing events invites that were emailed to the user? Were created as "Meetings" instead of "Appointments" or vice versa? Are they all recurring or all-day events? Is it only happening for calendar items added via the Web app, or Outlook, or third-party calendar? I don't know why any of that would matter, but if you can narrow down the issue to a specific type of record, then it might be easier to Google for a solution.
-
Maybe the events were added during a time when the user was on Offline Access, and it's taking a while for the event to synch. Or maybe the phone is only set up to sync events in a certain time frame and the event date excludes it from syncing.
-
Long shot: In Outlook - Calendar - Calendar Permissions/Properties, there is a Synchronization tab with a Filters button. If there is anything set up there, it will affect how calendar items sync.
Looking over this list, it might be easier to just delete and re-connect the Exchange account every time it gets cranky. Good luck!

More than just removing Exchange from the iPhone I also run CalCheck.exe against the users Exchange profile from a workstation.
Our users calendars are extremely messy. The physicians calendars are managed/edited/etc by nearly everyone in the office. Those who need it have the required delegation rights.
The biggest time we notice problems is when someone changes or moves an appointment. Exchange appears to maintain the same calendar entry ID and this causes the iDevices to not make the needed change, as they consider there to be no change. To solve this we've told staff that they can not change/move an appointment, instead they must delete the old one, and create a brand new appointment. This seems to have reduced our problems significantly.
For me, once the Exchange logs indicate that the single entry is stuck, syncing never works again. Removing Exchange and re setting it up seems to resolve it quickly. If not, running the CalCheck hasn't failed me yet.
