Make a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro boot to USB?
-
My Acer is the same way - I haven't been able to boot from a Linux thumb drive (started a thread about it). Similar to AJ - I changed to the UEFI setting to legacy - didn't help any. I have yet to manage to boot from USB ... and have set it aside for now.

@thanksajdotcom said: You need to enable Legacy mode in the BIOS, otherwise it's looking for a UEFI partition to boot from, and that rules out pretty much all USB devices. Are you sure? I thought you could boot into UEFI from USB - if you can't how can you install Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 on a ultrabook in UEFI mode?

One thing for sure, you need to disable Secure Boot - which is probably somewhere else in the setup.

Here is a tutorial I've used in the past http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

If you're installing 8, 8.1 or 10, then yes, that's fine. However, if you're installing 7 or Linux, then you need to enable Legacy mode.

I found instructions for Ubuntu on UEFI as well.

That's the tool I use to format USB to boot UEFI

I recently tried to install Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo X1 - but it failed and failed.. I built my USB drive using the Windows 7 cd to USB tool - which has worked a ton in the past. But now that i think about it probably failed because I didn't have a GPT partition on the USB. sigh.

You can and should install newer versions of windows in UEFI mode (or Linux) , if you don't you'll mess up the install when you switch back.

But this can be solved if the OS you want to install has a cert for UEFI - and Ubuntu does.. so you can install that into the UEFI.
