It's the distance...
The great Bender of New New York, calls people Meatbags, but as we're dealing with software and hardware, I felt that meatware was a more applicable term.
Hahaha, love that character.
Layer 8 problem, never heard that either, my rock, the one I hide under, is doing a great job of shielding me from all this new fangled terminology.

I don’t need to know that. Like most I have a number of small offices that use spectrum coax. I have not heard anything yet though, here’s hoping.

Wow, that's funny. In our area, Spectrum is fast and rock solid and everybody else is crap.
I have a similar experience with Comcast. Where I live, the residential side is great. The business side is terrible.

office#1: "bad" cable modem; Spectrum replaced modem no issues rest of the day (so far)
office#2: 'hmm no idea"; tech replaced modem, replaced connectors, replaced cable going to street connection (its underground we have a pipe with a pull line in it) and its working now but he was seeing very low signal. The tech escalated to their transmission techs so we will see what happens. -

had an issue like this once - it was caused by other equipment further up the line injecting noise.
