Drives alone for this are going to cost you (assuming amazon prices - not VAT) $6,325.
Just had a look now:
24 * DC HC530 inc VAT = £12,503.53
1 x SC847E16-R1K28LPB inc VAT = £1,655.99Total: £14,159.52
Just need to configure it in house.

You would have specs if so. What you linked looked only like the chassis.

Chassis is just the chassis. . . not the guts.

Those are the MB's that the chassis can fit.

Chassis implies none of those things. If you look, the chassis lists the kinds of motherboards it supports. It doesn't have a mobo, let alone CPU, RAM, etc.

SuperMicro you always buy through a dealer. Looking at SM's website is just about useless. Talk to PCM UK and have them assemble something for you, trying to do it yourself will be a nightmare and that's never how SM expects it to work.
-
You could easily be adding an additional 2-6 K on top of what you estimated for just the chassis and drives.

Would that PCM work also include OS setup/setting up the file system? So we just rack it in the office and turn it on...

Makes sense, ill keep looking. This we could make a saving my getting smaller drives, say 8TB, but more of them?

And where would you fit these lower capacity drives that take more bays?

Maybe, but a lot more of them. What capacity do you actually need?

That chassis does 36.

It's very plausible you could have the dealer do this for you, but I'd reload it myself.

Except that every board listed for that chassis is discontinued. . . (I checked)

What sort of hardware support do we get? I assume just manufacturer warranty?

Usually 12 months manufacturer (SM) and you would get additional coverage from whoever you bought it from at cost.

That's what your IT department is for, always, no exceptions. Nothing that comes configured by a vendor can ever be used in production, because it means you can't support it and don't know what the setup is.
If you don't have the IT people in house to manage your systems, then you need an ITSP / MSP, it's that simple. If you can't set a system up using in house resources, you can't run and maintain it. So you need to solve the issue of how to run the system before you buy it. Remember, most of the cost and complexity of any system is in ongoing operations, not in purchase and setup.

170 TB, usable. But with ability to expand in the future if we need to.

What else is there? I mean you can talk to an MSP and pay some huge money for them to warranty your work or whatever. But.... all you are doing is paying them to be a financial vehicle which will cost you a lot of money.
