How do you choose what Linux Distro to use for a project?

Do you try and stick to one e.g. Fedora Server. Or like me use what ever distro you find an install guide for

e.g. I need to re-install SnipeIT onto a clean VM. But what Distro do i use? I've currently got it on Fedora as per one of the topics on MangoLassi. But should i use what they recommend (even thou i can't find what they recommend)

Another example is Zabbix and Unifi Controller.

The general consensus is to start with the "mainstream" enterprise OS's. Fedora, RHEL/CentOS and lastly Ubuntu.

I generally try to stick with whatever the developer uses. If they say we dev on X, I install using X, not Y.

Things like the UniFi controller are repository installed apps. You stick to the distributions that they are in repositories for. In that case Debian/Ubuntu.

Web apps like NodeBB and Nextcloud and SnipeIT should easily install on any OS. This should be what ever system you prefer. For me, that is always Fedora/CentOS.

This is the normal approach i tend to keep. Just wondered what other did or recommended.

Sure, but if the developer says "supported on Debian, CentOS and Fedora" you have your choice of a solution to use and you wouldn't go and use Gentoo (unless you maybe hated yourself).

The point being, if you want support of any kind, you stick with what the developer has said that they use and support.

Exactly. Devs typically have no idea about OS, security, etc... I work with a ton of Devs that more than prove this, all the time. There is never any practical or logical reasoning.
