If you think your current profile is not under potential employers radar then you are mistaken

Very true. Employers likely are looking at everything that you do online.

^This is why I don't post a lot. Either here, SW, FB or Twitter.
The more you post, the more likely it is that you will shoot your mouth off.

Also, it helps to use different usernames. I only use nadnerB here and at SW but on a few other social services like Twitter and FB, I use... something else...

Edit: thought better of leaving an unrelated username easily accessible 😉 Granted, playing the connect-a-dot game is still relatively easy, effort is still required.

Yeah, I should have done that, but didn't...

But conversely, the more you post the less any one post stands out and the more you post the more you, and not someone else, controls your online persona.

Yes, but if, hypothetically, most of your posts are vitriolic bile, then it doesn't matter how much you post. No one likes a troll.

Most of my posts are very mild to say the least but I still like to think that I'm lurking in the shadows and mildly-difficult to track over the interwebs 😉
I know I'm not but for the type of surface level searches that companies do, I think that I'm difficult enough to find a lot on without investing a large, less attractive amount of time.

EDIT: Yes, that could work against me but I'm not worried, I don't think I'd like a job where they had to put that much research into me.

For me it is easy to track everything I do. Even if I made it difficult someone who wanted to find things could. So I make sure that everything is branded everywhere! And be professional or at least not a total dolt about what I post. I tend to error on the side of caution at all times.

I think a lot of the message is: either stay below the radar, keep your name off of your posts, don't go crazy or own it, brand it and be as public as possible. Either works, it's the middle ground where problems arise.

                    I can appreciate this.

I've locked my FB profile down so only friends can find me - while I know FB constantly opens this back up... it's all I can do at this point.

I see it as keeping the stalkers out 😄

Who wants colleagues scabbing tech support after hours (Still takes effort to say no)?

I don't allow office associates to friend me.
