Not enough info. How many people, how many files and how much storage space? What is the performance load expected?

What is the use case, business needs, and goals?

It's hard to compare a house and a car... they are used for different purposes.

            Completely different stuff.
SAN is not for file sharing, in any way.

Totally different animals. NAS is a network file system device, a SAN is block storage. The two really don't overlap in use cases except for very unique situations. What is your use case, normally your use case will dictate that only one of the two is even possible.

None of those things would be factors as they are load based, which is the same between the two, but don't look at the use case which is the only factor between the two.

I assume from ops original question that he is considering connecting his file server to a SAN vs local storage, but there really isn't enough detail to tell.
