Just had a good conversation with the Texas Wage board 🙂 They are ready to go after my former employer who owes me a small fortune; and, here is the best part, they recommended that I have a chat with immigration and customs about what they've been doing here in the US and maybe have their border crossing options limited (e.g. welcome to this small but comfy holding cell to hang out in while we consider letting you leave.)

He's meaning that logistics company that wanted him to move their hq from Qatar to Spain.

They officially let me go a few days ago (well technically, they can't let me go, my contract says a month's notice) but they gave me notice a few days ago because I demanded my paychecks.

As you can imagine, firing someone for asking for their paycheck doesn't go over well to the Texas wage board.

Right now they are looking at...

                    • Not having paid wages.
                    • Running a scam (state gov't recommend I turn them in to immigration).
                    • Not paying their taxes (that's between them and the IRS, but this will flag them.)
                    • Unemployment claims.
                    • One month's pay for notice.
                    • Possibly claims for intent to defraud.
                    • Wrongful termination, since it was not an at-will position.
                    • And always the possibility of a discrimination investigation.

                                You mean Citi?

He's meaning that logistics company that wanted him to move their hq from Qatar to Spain.

oh? you don't work there anymore? I missed that!

If you haven't worked or did any work for them for YEARS, why do they owe you so much money? Or did I miss something?

Just had a good conversation with the Texas Wage board 🙂 They are ready to go after my former employer who owes me a small fortune; and, here is the best part, they recommended that I have a chat with immigration and customs about what they've been doing here in the US and maybe have their border crossing options limited (e.g. welcome to this small but comfy holding cell to hang out in while we consider letting you leave.)

I haven't worked for a company unrelated to the conversation for years 😉 I'm not sure how the company that I've not worked for for a very long time got mentioned, but it is not part of the equation.

The company in question, the one that I'm going after, fired me over the weekend for asking for my paycheck. That's wrongful dismissal even in at-will states. But they also waived at-will status, so there is even more to it.

And then there is racial discrimination, which will up the situation another step.

Texas seemed to think that most, if not all of it, was pretty much a foregone conclusion. The degree to which I have documentation from them, in writing, is way better than usual.

It's not just that they broke the law, they admitted (in person, not in writing) that it had been by intent. So it's not just letter of the law, but spirit, too.
