Is no-ip the best way to go or should they have a static IP address at the office?

For security cameras, no-ip seems just fine.

@thecreativeone91 Met with them on Thursday and have a list of needs and wants. On the want list was the ability to connect to the office computer from the house occasionally, but that was on the bottom of the list.

Ok peeps, thanks for your input on no-ip.

                  • Does anyone have suggestion on using a domain name versus provided domain name by no-ip

                  • If yes to above, would you add SSL?

                  • Any comments on iOS apps for cameras?

You mean setup your own FQDN? I would assuming that there is already a registered domain.

username/locaitonname.domain.com is what I use in any hardware that points back to various sites.

Those DNS entries are then a CNAME pointing to somerandom.dyndns.name

Obviously that could potentially be a double DNS lag on IP change, so set your TTL as needed based on how much the IP changes. Tweak over time.

@JaredBusch Thanks for the info, that helped.

I am guessing it really doesn't matter (custom domain vs no-ip domain) as long as they can connect to the cameras.

Going to get them setup asap.

@technobabble yeah, it really does not matter too much. Just using your own domain looks better.

The good thing about using your own domain record is if you move it somehow you can keep the same url for end users and they won't notice any changes.
