It seems that I need to recompile a O365 email litigation search for a client who's attorney can't seemingly open the included PST file.

I've done this in the past, and I'm just learning that it too seemingly wasn't helpful. So I wonder if I have managed to follow a process (twice now) to export emails for a keyword search incorrectly.

Performing the search seems to be pretty simple and straight forward - but the export seemingly doesn't 'work'. I get the CSV list report, and also the PST, but of course they need the full email.

Are there any suggestions on how to tune this process so that I get the information? and it seems that they would rather have it as a PDF rather than a PST.

What are you using? The Security and Compliance Center is the best way to go about this. Search by keyword or subject name and it will export it as a pst file. We've had to do it a few times and it works without an issue every time.

Have you asked if they have the full version of Microsoft Outlook so they can open the .pst file?

No - I would think that a decent size office should have Outlook.. but there I go thinking again and assuming...

I think the issue may be with how I did the initial export. I've recompiled it using this:

Why would an office being large dictate the use of Outlook?

That's my biggest complaint about this. I don't have Outlook installed locally. So this is always an issue.

                          Working with a client's data.

I can see an Accounting firm using Xero or some other better tooll... but they have a client come to them with Quickboots. Is the firm suppose to turn away clients - and therefore work because they used QB? heck no. Saddle up, get it,. .and move on....

Sure, so this is a single instance. So there might be a need for one or two people to have full outlook for this reason. But not a general expectation that Outlook will be in a large business.
