So looking to try and do some comparison between these lines and I'm at a loss that Ubiquiti doesn't appear to be nearly as powerful as the switches that Meraki has offered.

      Meraki Datasheets

      Ubiquiti Datasheet

      What am I missing here?

You going to help us out and tell us what's different so we don't have to dig through the specs to see what you're talking about?

Not much. Meraki has the cloud UI... but that can easily be built for Ubiquti for less then 5$ a month. Meraki also has a decent warranty and replacement agreement. Although, generally, for the price you could buy multiple Ubiquiti switches for the price of one Meraki switch.

The Meraki gear was never knocked because it lacked performance. It's the value/price that sucks.

Remember how @scottalanmiller is always saying Ubiquiti beats out anything Cisco offers below $3000.00?

I was shocked at the top level documentation... I needed to find a beer!

Yeah, the only place I see 70 is non blocking throughput.

But sure, the Meraki do appear to have higher throughput than the EdgeSwitches in general. The question is, do you need that level of throughput?

I don't know about you, but I have basically three bottle necks - internet (100 mb/s download), Email server (1 Gb/s shared with other VMs), DC/File server (1 Gb/s shared with other VMs).

I don't need more than 1.1 Gb/s to tap out my stuff in general. Toss in some printing, etc.. I might be able to push that to 2 Gb/s.

With the Meraki Switches you need to by licensing, right? Does the hardware purchase include a years license or anything?

                              Yes.
When you stop paying, they stop working. Period.

I have no need for something better than what I have now. But I'm guessing that if I did, I wouldn't be looking to Meraki to solve the issue for me.

Yeah, plenty of other options without the license encumbrance. Just not Ubiquiti, who doesn't even offer anything at that level.

Yes, huge cost and huge risk.

So I found the licensing for the Meraki Switches.

Pricing is as low as $350/year for a single year.

Ubiquiti has no licensing cost at all and is substantially cheaper, so why. . .
