i've got several Dell Venue 11's out in the wild and we haven't noticed any problems. Now, these are used in a clinical setting so they aren't "under heavy bind". They are, however, quite heavy and dont scroll as nice iDevices, but they are natively compatible with our applications.

Game playing will be an occasional thing with my SP3 and glad to have the options to play games and the fact they do look quite good. I think the panic over the heat is basically, the core i7 is right there, by your hand and yes, you will feel heat...

Seems like it is performing very reasonably.

I think so...as I mentioned above, it may be due to the fact the CPU is pretty much flush against the tablet exterior...of course you will feel heat...

The more you feel, the cooler that it can keep itself 🙂

My days of an extreme gamer are over...and I don't keep up with getting the best GPU card out there anymore. But I am very impressed with the rendering on my SP3 and Intel HD 5000. Couldn't ask for better in such a portable device.

Hey guys, I am the original producer of the YouTube video. You should check out my Diablo 3 video, a real world example of throttling where I demonstrate the frame rate dropping by almost half, doing absolutely nothing for 5 minutes... just leaving the characters there idle. The frame rate becomes unplayable when action is taking place.

My argument is that the i7 model is ill-conceived. Ideally, I believe there should have been an i3 model up to 256GB of storage 4GB of RAM, and an i5 model up to 512GB and 8GB of RAM for the price of the base i7 model. I see no point to paying the extra cost of the i7 processor... the only i7 model that makes any sense is the option to have 512GB of storage. Something that's definitely not work nearly $2K.

And this isn't trolling. This is pragmatism... someone explain to me the benefit of the 256GB i7 model... anyone.

I opted for the i7 (purchased by work) for the 512GB storage...I've not been affected my the throttling much...even with 30+ minutes with lost coast. Video rendering my be where I see it eventually...

                        Surface Pro 3 i7 Model = throttling/overheating
it's better surface pro 2 performance

but you can solve the throttling with external usb fan
