I don't have any experience with Vultr. Can any of you good folks tell me the differences between it and WPEngine or Rackspace?

Lower cost, better designed for the SMB market, a little easier to use.

It's a lot cheaper for lab and production use.
I like using it for instances that doesn't need a lot of resources like freepbx, nginx (reverse-proxy), and Nextcloud.

Vultr doesnt offer anything like wpengine.com. Vultr offers virtual machines, WPEngine is more of a wordpress managed service.

A good alternative to wpengine is Envato Wordpress Hosting. Under $20/month and you get access to the top selling templates for free. They also provide excellent support.

And Hostadillo for Wordpress. That's who hosts SMBITJournal 😉

They are pretty new. Maybe... three months? It's $10, but it's not unlimited sites. It's fully managed, though.

If you go to https://smbitjournal.com/ you can check the performance on a busy site.

Both are IaaS. Vultr is just a higher end, lower cost one.

RS has some features that Vultr does not, but mostly not ones you'd care about. RS is so much more expensive and the service isn't as good, so that their extra features are mostly worthless. They have more flexible plans, but Vultr you just overbuy for less money. And Vultr has much higher performance at the same specs.

Use the banner ads here... ML gets like a $5 credit for you joining from the community. And you get something too, no idea what.

Yep I'll glad support ML like that. People and blogs that I like I try to click on ads there to help support.

Vultr is great, and it lets you use your own ISOs if you want, which isn't very common.
