My general rule is "as small as you can reasonably go" for desktops. It's not like you need to expand them much anymore.

That is why I love this micro form factor. IT is all basically a laptop MB, memory, and 2.5" drive.

Yeah, a laptop without the screen.

@Francesco-Provino If you were to tell me about the Micro Desktops from Dell like 5 years or so ago they had problems with their air flow but since then they have been pretty good and reliable. You can use SSDs on them so it is great even for troubleshooting and moving around.

I deployed my first two at this company 2 years ago.

Sadly we still need DVD drive in a lot of places... So SFF are our mainstay.

We need DVDs very rarely and we have capable machines for that, I don't think this could be a problem. Any suggestion on the mount options? I've seen some nice double-vesa supports…

DVD drive usage is so rare that we have an external DVD drive that IT will share when needed. Otherwise, it's on the Server, where we can back it up.

You can't use ISOs for what you need?

My go to desktop for business right now is the HP EliteDesk 800 G2 mini PC. HP has a quick release VESA mount for it.

Radiology images don't travel on ISO very well through the ether. šŸ˜‰

We get tons of radiology DVDs, we view even more images online but when we are not part of a specific medical facility, DVDs are generally the easiest method to get them.

Since we only have two, we didn't bother with mounting kits. The PC just sits on the desk.

Well do you have a central workstation that can Import the DICOM Images to your System? That is what I have for ease of access. Although is nice to have CD/DVD Drives in the Exam Room and doctors computers.

I buyed a couple but they had no ssd... they are really ok! better than sff for obvious space related resons, but with our specifications they either didn't fit the bill or didn't provide specs.

Yes, but if we import these external images, we have to pay for their storage. In general we don't want/need to keep these external images, we just look at them this one time, and move on.

You can also buy them with an i7. So I cannot see how it cannot work for anyone. Getone with an i7, SSD, and 16GB of RAM and it is way more power than needed for almost everyone.

My HP versions of these are 1.5 Inches thick, 6 inches wide, and about 8 inches deep.

Of course we need a lot more room on the back side because they only accept Display Port connections so I have often have to use convertors for my old VGA monitors.

at the time it was a mix of requirements vs cost. dell didn't provide i5+ssd+8gb ram in Italy, so we gone for the 3040.
