Is there a script I can run do to this? My boss is helping a friends company who had a single DC/DNS server which of course crashed. He needs to re-create the domain and is going to need to go to each individual computer to rename the profiles unless there is another way.

      EDIT: On Windows 7.

Could always use it as an excuse to re-image the environment as well. Just take backups and do fresh installs.

That's what I want to do but it's not going to happen 😕

Another option is slightly changing the name of the internal domain once it is rebuilt. I believe that should create new user profiles even if users have the same username.

This is my recommendation. If there is only one DC, you probably don't have more than a 100 domain joined devices, right?

Since you are starting from scratch again, this is a good article to read.

They have somewhere near 60 workstations. Completely re-creating it isn't going to happen unfortunately. Boss is just doing a favor and doesn't want to invest the time re-creating all of the users and everything.

You could... accidentally run a script that would make you required to rebuild everything.

Nah, it's not my job to force them to make the right decisions. Not even my friend
