So I assume that this guy still uses a paper filing system, a full filing cabinet, communicates ONLY via letter or telephone, has never bought anything online, and still drives a covered wagon...

He's a congresscritter, what else do you expect? Seems like a lot of them think a horse'n'buggy is a good transportation method.

This goes into the corrupt vs. incompetent conversation.

The answer to that would be: Yes.

It's always shocking how little it takes to get American politicians in your pocket.

The digital world is actually quite a bit more secure than the one that it replaced. In most cases.

I don't think they care about "security", as much as they care about "making it harder to figure out the terrible stuff we're doing."

In Sensenbrenner's head this makes sense because he doesnt need to use the internet. At all. He tells his servants to gather all information he needs, print it out, order his food, buy shit for his family, post garbage on twitter or facebook, read his emails.

This is to the likeness of saying that "we don't need air because nobody breathes".

Problem is, only people in his local, backwards district get to vote on him and they probably like what he is saying.

Incumbents generally don't lose in the US.

One of the reasons that some agencies rank certain US regions are non-democracy. There are guidelines for "opportunity to replace an incumbent" or something like that and if incumbents can't be replaced, the system is considered to be less free.

Yep don't doubt that. One of the reasons North Carolina and Upstate NY are less then democracies.

NC is ranked the least. Upstate is ranked one of the best. Upstate is misleading because it is a small region in a big pool. NC as an entire state can't replace people. Upstate as a REGION doesn't get to override the general population. Not comparable issues.
