Linux and Windows argument

How much do people store on phones that they need to back up? I need nothing but contacts. Everything else goes to storage somewhere else.

If you're an avid phone gamer, you might want your saved games... otherwise I mostly agree with you.

What does that mean? That the iPad won't work until you plug it into iTunes?
What about people who don't own a computer at all? If you reset the iPad, and never associate it with a computer iTunes account, would that solve the issue?
The one bad thing about his is backing up the iPad will require one of those other linux ok programs or a LOT of storage in iCloud (read $$$$)
Depends what you are backing up. Other than contacts, what's on an iPad that you need to back up?
depends how you use it. If it's your primary camera (I know crazy huh), then photos... sure you could back them up to google photos...
They generally get automatically uploaded to iCloud. At least my wife's do.
Yeah, but just turn that off
We did on the new one. Turned on the Amazon Cloud Drive/Photos sync application. That works splendidly.

I run Windows 10 as my main guest OS, but 90% of my stuff is done on one of my Linux VMs. For Windows specific tasks I have another licensed Windows 10 VM. When connecting to work via VPN I use my Windows 10 VM. I really don't do much of anything on my host OS.
I invested in VMware workstation a year or a so ago and it has been a great investment.

why was that license needed? Virtual box have an issue you couldn't overcome?

Linux vs Windows, both have a place. Licensing is what makes Microsoft such a pain to deal with, especially when you've seen licensing done correctly instead of the normal tricks and traps.

Have you tried a hard reset on it?
If you see the Connect to iTunes screen, restart your device:
On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo. -

So now what do you do? If I drop completely to Linux - something like this would become a rather annoying event. As someone that has five iPads (in use), four iPods and two iPhones, that could get damn right perturbing.Stop using Apple products would be my answer. Though you seem to be in too deep already.

That doesn't make sense though - Scott is a HUGE apple fan, and he's on Linux now too.
I tend to agree with Scott's comment earlier, if this is a problem, borrow a friends computer.

My wife had it at the time, and plugged it into her laptop - not same iTunes system.
Seems fine currently...
