      Easy-to-deploy mail server
      https://mailinabox.email/

      • Roundcube Webmail

      • ownCloud Contacts

      • A Control Panel

      • Automatic DNS configuration

      • spam filtering

      • greylisting

      • backups to Amazon S3

      • free TLS (SSL) certificates from Let’s Encrypt.

can host mail for multiple users and multiple domain names.

It implements modern mail protocols (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) and the latest security best practices, including opportunistic TLS, strong ciphers, and HSTS. When enabled, DNSSEC (with DANE TLSA) provides a higher level of protection against active attacks. Exchange ActiveSync is also available as a beta feature.

It used Owncloud for contacts and looks like the dev is trying to replace that due to issues https://github.com/mail-in-a-box/mailinabox/issues/514

Looks like maybe NextCloud is up for consideration.

So a real question - what makes this more interesting than, say, Zimbra or other existing open source, totally free email platforms that have been doing this for a long time? What's the selling point or value proposition over the established players?

Havent worked on Zimbra in the last 5 years (so not sure whats new with Zimbra) , but i guess the selling point for this would be the ease of setting this up

Zimbra is super easy. Just download the RPM and install. It's been like that for a long time.

as a linux noob I like the fact that it's a self contained single package that I can dump into a VM
