I'm setting up a new network with 6 individual offices within a single shared office space.
I was thinking of using the EdgeMax pro by Ubiquiti as it was recommended on here. Each office will have it's own subnet range:

      192.168.1.1
      192.168.2.1
      192.168.3.1 and so forth.

Do you guys think the PRO8 as per here would be a good choice?

I havent used one before so will it be straight forward to configure via the Gui?
We will need to configure site to site vpn's, firewall rules and bandwidth control etc.

      Thoughts on this appreciated.

        Skip 192.168.1.1 please.

Most home networks use that, so IP address conflicts with VPNs tend to happen.

I've not had my hands on that unit so no comment.

Unless you are going to have 6 switches to go along with this as well, then you really do not need the 8 as you can assign as many addresses to a port as you want.

The ERL can handle all 6 subnetsfor a small office.

          How many users per subnet?

You can upgrade to EdgeOS 1.9 and do all the basics in the GUI. But like any other router, you need to learn the command line to get fine grain tuning. So it depends on what you need out of it.

Will each have its own physical network, so each port goes off to a dedicated switching stack?

It's the same easy GUI (be sure to update before starting) as the EdgeRouter Lite and EdgeRouter X. It's pretty easy.

Thank you for the responses and since sub created topics.

I will refrain from using the subnets as suggested and will use a /23 range.

Yes, each office will have their own dedicated switch. Based on this, is the ER8 a good shout?

They currently use a Draytek 2860 and have 4 offices in their building but when they move out to the new. We'll have 6 offices so wanted something a little more robust and reliable.

Can the ER8 do load balancing so I can assign each port say 30mb each ? Pressume I can find all the steps/guides online

                  Great Recommendation.

                  Forget 192.168.1.0,192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1

                  You can use 192.168.200.1 192.168.201.1....

Yes, if you are wiring each one to its own hardware, then Pro 8 will do that very well.

Correct. WIth dedicated switching to be behind it, then the ER8 is an awesome choice.

You can do some load balancing globally, or you can do shaping on each interface.

I highly recommend against setting a 30mb limit per line. that just hurts everyone.

Just set global QoS for things like VoIP and such.

I agree with @JaredBusch look at shaping and such before you look at capping. Capping is almost always a very bad idea, everyone loses.

Even if the 6 offices are totally independent? We have a 200mb line coming in so is it not fair to allocate each port 32mb each? Or do you think I should just leave it defaulted but prioritise QOS for voip?

                              Correct.

Does someone have any examples of actual QOS rules for the EdgeRouterX series? I've got the basic "Download = 700kbps, Upload=300kbps" for our connections, but that's it so far.

Since version 1.8 or maybe 1.7 even, they added new a QoS process outside of the original traffic shaping stuff.

fq_codel is the new standard and is in the GUI.
