Phone Tone quality

I'm drawing a blank on the proper term, but when you call into a teleconference service, and are asked to "enter your passcode" the conference service is listening to the key tones pressed. What is that feature called specifically? I know poor call quality can cause issues, such as the tones being misheard or completely missed if pressed to rapidly etc. Thanks

 Isn't it DTMF?

That looks like it. Dual Tone Multiple Frequencies Thanks

I would have thought the 'D' stood for Dial, not Dual.
