Do you have several devices on the wireless. Contention does a TON of speed reduction.
Yes, two phones and two other laptops.
During my speed testing, I make sure they are all idle, not using internet bandwidth.

Yes, two phones and two other laptops.
Well that is certainly a major factor. And are you getting 85Mb/s going wireless to wired or wireless to wireless?

Wireless to the wired internet

Slightly surprising that you are only seeing 85Mb/s over the AP but those other devices might be doing something. 300Mb/s is the total speed, not the speed per device. So split between six devices is only 50Mb/s between them plus collision overhead which, as you get to any traffic level, becomes enormous.
-
You also have to consider packet drop. It's 300Mb/s if every packet makes it. Not if there are retransmits.
-
You also have to consider other sources of interference in that band frequency and CSMA/CA
-
Well, the 300 is wrong, as JB pointed out, it's 1.3 GB for AC at the top end, and 850 for the UBNT AC-LITE
But, as I mentioned, the other devices were ideal.
ISP = 100 / 20
Wireless best I can get is 85 Mb
Wired, same laptop, wireless disabled, I get 105 Mb
No other changes to the other wireless devices. -

No other changes to the other wireless devices.Did you test with a different device? The problem could easily be the laptop.

I have no other AC devices.

I recently upgraded our WiFi to all Unifi UAP-AC-LITE. I can give you some real world testing if you want. Just send me a message.

Here I thought I was the only one with that exact reaction!
“I watched the whole thing. I turned it on and at some point I said, ‘The sonofabitch isn’t gonna get up.’ So, I went and got some scotch and I sat down and stared at Ron sitting by a fire drinking scotch and I drank scotch by a fire and stared right back at him.”

I earned some new features today apparently... Highlighted to show them off.

Sorry people was off ill yesterday so did see any posts
Anyway - yes it's the AC Lite I've gone for. Just waiting for my EdgeRouter X to arrive then find out to use that instead of the Sky router

Thinking of changing my title to "Senior Infrastructure Engineer"
As I want to concentrate on looking after everything Server layer, Switches, End User device connections!!!! and all the cables between. Then leave the "please change my password" to a junior support tech person!(I put this End User device connections!!!! like that as I want to look after the PC and connection i.e. hardware not office!)
