I've had Android running in an emulated environment on my Ubuntu desktop at home within the last year. I used to use it to play Clash of Clans awhile back... I haven't mucked with it in months though.

I had a VM of it sometime last year. It seemed to work ok.

Depending on how much you value your time / sanity there are relatively cheap and fast android tablets to be had

We got an octa core with I think 2 GB RAM on Amazon for like $99. The display looked like kids drew everything with water color paint but it works for the shop floor.

I've just started playing with Remix OS. Here's an instance with Google Play Services already loaded. Sorry for the slow initial speed but I'm at home and just started to seed this to my other servers so once it sync's the speed will pick up.
              Download Link: RemixOS-disk1.vhd 2.4GB

Just got home from basketball practice and installed it. Works awesome. This is pretty cool.

That RemixOS looks pretty cool, too.

I've got the Remix Ultratablet from Jide. It's not exactly on the cheap side, but it's a fairly good deal for $250. It is still running the RemixOS 1.5 (Android 5.0.2). But it's a solid build. Their tablet comes with a keyboard dock and has a kickstand so you can use it like a laptop, and I've done so. It even plays my PS1 games better than the original PS1, lol.

I like BlueStacks, but I've never gotten it to work right but on one of my computers, and then I wiped & reloaded said computer, and never got it to work again... /pout

I have Bluestacks working but the limitation is that you can only run one instance on a device. I need quite a few running for example. Does Bluestacks work with multiple instances on the same host?

GenyMotion does work in this way and there's a free individual use tier.

I've heard that you can use the Android Studio to do this, but I haven't had time to test it at home, and at work, it doesn't work because I run Hyper-V, lol.
