CentOS7 - 256MB of RAM

So I was doing a fresh CentOS7 install for ScreenConnect.
I remember that @scottalanmiller says it runs fine with just 256MB of RAM, so that's all I gave it.
But the GUI install is sooooooooo slow! lol
I am sure once I can back to the command line it will be fine

No one runs CentOS 7 with the GUI.

I don't run it with a GUI, but how do you install it? Text Install?

Oh, the installer is slow? Never noticed that. I have a couple 256 installs out there, but most are 512.

Like Molasses up hill in January. I was remote, maybe that was the issue....

I access my VM controllers via ScreenConnect and do not generally notice any issues while installing.

I am bummed about the price increase, and I kinda don't ever want to use it anymore, but its soooooo good.

Assuming you mean ScreenConnect? The price change is honestly not that bad of a deal for a shop that has 3-4 techs. But for the place with a single license, it is a huge difference.

Would probably be a better option at 256MB of RAM. Makes me wonder how small it's possible to go.

Ya I've tried to install with the gui and it wouldn't run unless I had it at least 1 GB. After the install I just put it at 256MB

Wait there is alike a real GUI for install? I am used to the simple default install GUI. Are you saying there is something else?

Just the normal anaconda one. I've had it say it can't run unless it has at least 1GB so I always give it that and then change it when it's done. Usually only have to do that once though and just make it a template.

If you download the DVD ISO, there are options for a full gnome desktop, kde desktop, and server with x environment. I've used it as a desktop with gnome 3 and it's not too bad. It's really solid. It's nice for workstations that only use an office suit and internet.

Okay, just checking. Yeah I have done this 50+ times on a 512mb VM. I have done a 256 a couple times just testing something that I destroyed the next day. I did not notice a long delay on install or any hard time clicking through the screens.

Yeah, that is all post install and I have set one up a couple times with a GUI because I wanted to run CrashPlan (non-headless).
