Ubiquiti controller issues

I updated Java on my Ubiquitie controller server this morning, then tried to launch the website to look at the settings - and it won't launch.
OK So I reboot it.
Still won't launch.
I download the latest version of the software and do and update. Now the website launches, but the settings are all messed up.
My APs are in the sites I assigned them to, the sites don't have Wireless networks anymore, somehow the APs (all but one) moved themselves to the Default site and kept one of wireless networks, but dropped the guest network I had setup.
WTF!

Turns out the icon that that standard installer leaves on your desktop when you install the controller normally points to the profile installed setup, not the Service based setup which I either manually pointed to c:\program files\Ubiquiti UAP or ran the install again - don't recall anymore.
Once I killed the process under my profile, and restarted the process from Services - everything was as expected.
I've now deleted the useless install under my profile and pointed the desktop shortcut to the install under Program Files, not that I should have to use it.

UG - updating the service based install of the Unifi Controller - what a pain in the ass!
When upgrading the service first run "java -jar lib\ace.jar uninstallsvc" (may vary depending on where you run command from) to remove the old the service. Update the UniFI controller. After the update is complete, run "java -jar lib\ace.jar installsvc" to install the service for the updated controller instance.
Basically you have to stop the service, uninstall the service, update the directory location, then reinstall the service, then restart the service, ALL MANUALLY!
I can't wait until the new controller stick is here!

Sounds like it'd be easier to have a base os image you could fire up and import the config to the new one than actually upgrade? Ick, glad for the heads up.

the problem with moving it is that the APs only want to talk to the device that activated them. At least by DNS name if not by IP. So if you restore to a new machine with a different IP, you'll have to change DNS at least, if not manually reset all APs and import them again.

They realm just want you to stand up a Ubuntu vm or use the controller stick I guess.

Yeah I suppose, I tried today but it would not accept my password. I should try again when I'm not under the gun.
Jason, do you understand that it is the same password you use for the controller?

No, It's been a while since I've used them but it was under settings on the controller you set a device password. otherwise it's likely just ubnt/ubnt for the user/pass of the AP.

No, It's been a while since I've used them but it was under settings on the controller you set a device password. otherwise it's likely just ubnt/ubnt for the user/pass of the AP.
Yeah I saw that are, on phone now, and I recall seeing my username in there, but the password was started out.
