Star Wars Fan looking for a cool USB 3.0 drive?
-
Someone's looking to get the funding together to make a run of USB 3.0 flash drives that look like the rank/data sticks that the Imperial Officers wear in Star Wars.
-
Cute. I don't know anyone regularly using USB anymore though for storage. For boot devices that are permanent yes. But I don't see people carrying them around anymore.
-
I have a couple in my laptop bag but I rarely use them.
-
I have them all over. But haven't bought one in years.
-
The only place I use these is on customer sites when they need something downloaded (and aren't connected to internet for whatever reason).

-
We use them in the lab but not in production.
-
I use them around the office occasionally.
-
I use them to boot Clonezilla since I haven't setup a PXE boot system yet.
-
It's amazing how few companies have PXE boot. Even big ones.
-
I wonder if it's really worth the effort for PXE booting when you can so easily boot from a USB stick. Even in large companies what are the chances that users would ever boot to the PXE environment?
-
PXE is popular for server build processes.

@scottalanmiller said: PXE is popular for server build processes. You and I live in different worlds. I build so many desktops, and very few servers. Of course I'd love to turn that around...
-
If you build lots of anything PXE becomes nice. No need to carry anything and you can initiate rebuilds remotely.

USB drives are handy for working with machines that fail to boot properly. Booting to a Linux USB drive is a great way to clear out most basic malware infections in less than 15 minutes.

For the Empire! ...Oh, wait, wrong empire.
