@gjacobse I just made a video today about why we use desktops as servers now!

Well first off I get this message:
    9379c007-e02d-4ba2-910f-61e1c3923af3-image.png

    Uhm.. okay.

Desktops as servers; in some cases - they are useful. Sadly the issue I am running into is that the twelve year old computer has more cores than anything I have available to me in the office,.. I am running an old Dell with 8-cores, and everything I have only has 4-cores.

Were I running several rPi VMs that might be fine, but I am running full Windows or Linux for testing and Ham Radio. It's working but a little strained and I can't do much more without maxing the system resources out.

Oh well.. will find something some time..

    Cocoon Nebula (IC5146)
    2024.10.24 @ 22:00
    Alt: 73°

The Cocoon Nebula, also known as IC5146, is a fascinating emission and reflection nebula located about 3,300 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. This nebula is a stellar nursery where new stars are forming, with a bright central star that illuminates the surrounding gas and dust, giving the nebula its soft, cocoon-like appearance. The Cocoon is linked to a dark nebula, a dense, starless region called Barnard 168, which stretches out like a trail behind it, obscuring the background stars.

The Cocoon Nebula sits in one of the Milky Way’s richest star fields, so it's dark trail and glowing cloud stand out even more against a sea of distant stars.

    Setup:
    C8-XLT + f/6.3 reducer @ 1208mm focal length
    iOptron mount, tracking
    Ares-C Pro camera
    Optolong L-Pro filter
    SharpCap Pro & Siril

    Total exposure time: 8 hours
    Processing: mediocre

It's clear a non-trivial amount of effort went into making that. Opening and closing reminded me of some Karlheinz Stockhausen music I heard during undergrad.

That's actually an improvised synth piece done by the singer, using a little pocket device that's smaller than a cell phone. And I definitely need to check out some Karlheinz Stockhausen. Thanks for watching!

A couple of years ago, we discovered that AT&T geoblocks all VOIP traffic from India. We sent some configured phones to them, because the bosses were told by AT&T that it would work fine. Nope. All the tracert results clearly showed them dropping the traffic. But then a few months ago, it started working! The India team emailed me asking to change out the names/extensions, and since then we've had no problems.

This thread, https://access.redhat.com/discussions/669573, likely requires a Red Hat account to view, but it wins the necro post award.

    Search on YouTube for
First We Feast or Hot Ones
Interviews while eating hot wings from mild to needing assistance.
They show each kind of sauce they use - 10 for each episode.
I personally liked the interviews with Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel.

It's so weird, especially after learning other cultures now that I don't live in the USA to watch how people act in the USA.

    Such entitlement. It's nuts.

Yeah, you rarely get that same weird entitled attitude anywhere else.

I am bilingual English/Spanish. I was trying to learn Russian the other day

Since the time that this thread was originally posted, I learned Italian and then Spanish. I've mostly lost the Italian, but I speak Spanish every day now.

based on the word voxel is the world completely buildable and detroyable?

Not in the same way Teardown is, (another awesome game by the way), but you can build/destroy.

@JaredBusch said in Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play:

based on the word tycoon is it a sim?

Yes, along the lines of a Sim City type game, but more fun.

I had time later and looked at the steam store. looks interesting.

I actually had it in my Steam wishlist for like a year or something. I had constantly ignored it because the name doesn't do it justice, and never really bothered to look much. I had added it back when I was playing more Teardown and searched for other voxel based games out of curiosity. I wish I would have looked at it closer a long time ago.
