Someone was discussing this today and I realized something that I had never noticed before. I have been told from someone with direct inside info that my
account was removed because I wouldn't tow the line and stop pointing out that Nutanix was doing stuff like this. Nutanix is a big advertiser there and had even tried to give me a trip to convince me to stop telling people the truth about how they operated. I declined.I never realized that the updating of this thread with the new information about them was just a day and a half before my account was removed over there - at a time when I had had no activity. This explains the timing so much more, Nutanix must have been watching this thread, seen that I had the link that they wanted to suppress, and acted to remove my account before the truth could get out over there.
It was the morning of February 28th when my account was removed, on a day that I was traveling so not even online and the activity on the 27th was essentially zero. I hadn't really been online for days. Which makes the timing of this so much more obvious now that I realize that they coincided.

I bet if you asked him, he doesn't "like it" compared to the competition, just likes it in a vacuum, if that makes sense. I'm only guessing, but given that you are limited and slow compared to far cheaper options, what is there to like?

No, I don't think he deals with it directly. He is a Windows Admin and manages a ton of VMs that run on it. They are also using Cisco UCS, so who knows what TPTB know about the competition.
I think "they" refers to the team in their company that manages it.
I find it odd that they are so shitty, but are still around.

The thing is...
- Managing it is fine (AFAIK), so unless the team that manages it cares about cost, performance, liabilities, or the business itself, they will be fine with it. They don't get impacted by the problems.
- The business who pays too much and gets too little, and takes on unnecessary risks because of it aren't the ones who understand the product and trust those that manage it to protect them from those (often without empowering them to do so.)
Because Nutanix targets departments that don't really know the product space and are just looking for buzzwords, and because they do so with lots of ads and expensive sales people, it works pretty well. While to anyone in an "IT oversight" position, is dead obvious why you'd never even let them in the door to discuss their products, in an organization with poor IT oversight there isn't anyone to be the "trigger point" to point out the problems with it.

Very few large companies actually do that, though. They still tend to lack the experience and knowledge for those kinds of things. Or, as I've been told in other big companies, it's not about the money, but the effort - it's more effort to find a good product or to hire people who care, so they don't. Because the people whose money is being lost isn't the people who save on the effort.

That's where small businesses actually have an advantage. It is far easier for an SMB to hire a person or firm that can get a holistic view of their business and both care about doing a good job and enforce good decision making. The problem isn't that SMBs can't do that, it's that they often don't care to.
