Why are you letting the end users diagnose the problem. The end user should just describe the problem and you as the IT professional should decide where the problem is most likely happening (Tip: the OSI Model should help you narrow it down).

Switch issues are easiest to initially spot while in production (but, not necessarily narrow down the issue). You can have a switch performing great testing it at your desk due to it have minimal load but put it in to the production network and come to a halt.

It could be hardware or configuration (either Physical cabling or Software config) that is causing the issue. The Diagnostics logs may not tell you anything about a configuration issue.

I don't see anything unusual that log is showing when you have logged in and out of the web interface mostly.

There isn't going to be super detailed logs. A log is unlikely to tell you what is wrong with the switch. What issue was it having in the field and why was it brought in for servicing?

You can't really find an issue for something if you don't know where or how to look at it. You need to know what issue was going on to have the need to take out the switch.

You can't do what he has asked of you without the proper information about what happened.

I'm with @thecreativeone91 on this one. What they've done is give you a switch, tell you to find the problem but given you no information about what issues it's experiencing. This is not a reasonable request, especially for this type of device.

You can run a self test by removing power to the switch and reapplying power, immediately push the reset button. You can the download the diagnostic file from the switch. If you Don't know what you're looking for it's not going to be much help. Nor will it fix bad configuration.

Sadly this is once again your manager being an idiot. There is nothing wrong with the switch. The user didn't tell you what was wrong because nothing was wrong, most likely. You are being sent on a wild goose chase.

It very likely is not. Even if you find "something" wrong, what would you do? If the switch is broken, you need to replace it. That's the only action that there is for a broken switch.

Seriously, your manager is trying to discredit you.

                                            There are two tools...

                                            1. The logs, which tell us that nothing is wrong.
                                            2. The user describing the problem. Which as they've described nothing wrong also suggests that nothing is wrong.

Basically the switch has passed the two standard diagnostics.
