Yes. Up until now I think you've been relying on the @ashbot promotion network for that:)

OK I've tossed another on my plate - learn to deploy all required settings via GP (GPP and IEAK for IE) and if possible remove the requirement to grant users local admin rights for web application use (i.e. install ActiveX controls without needing local Admin rights)

A recent ML post has me building out AD in my second lab site and testing out DIrectAccess. Beyond that, I'm toying with the idea of writing an AWS Server 2012 optimization script.

ML is starting to have some influence, I see 🙂

              Hummm Projects...

              • Migrate some storage from physical to Virtual - Not the server yet though...
              • Install some 2012 R2 Servers and have them be the New AD Domain, DNS DHCP
              • Remove some of the older 2003 Physical boxes
              • Attempt to Remove more Commvault from my Life... - still like the email stubbing but exch2010+ has that if I want to purchase enterprise cals I guess
-- commvault server move to virtual, but keep tape drive functionality for email archiving / compliance - the make sure veeam has tape aux option as well.
              • move my Veeam Server from Physical to Virtual (uninstall - reinstall probably)
              • VoIP Elastix - while keeping our existing system in place - putting that one off... Server looks Easy... phones / softphones have no idea!
              • Complain about my choice of firewall - thinking I should have gone another direction, x300 works but is loud and QoS is odd
              • upgrade some older systems to SSD's - leave XP on 1 / two of them the others are old systems running Win 7 but want them on SSDs to give them a little longer life. (that shouldn't be too difficult - trick is imaging to non-identical size drives for low/no cost imaging - clonezilla doesn't like different size drives)

-- Projects that have been completed recently - for others

              • New Virtualization Server ESXi Free 5.5, and be able to manage from vsphere 5.5 client from a virtual host DC (tricky)
              • Move / Change DC from physical to virtual, demote the older ones
              • Exchange 2007 > Virtual Exchange 2007 (they didn't want to spend money for 2010 when they didn't need it)
              • Various system reloads/upgrades/SSD installs

Think that covers about 25% of my headaches lately...
Heading over to Vegas next week to look at tech and security stuff... (might be nice to see that metal 3D Printing System)

              (Home Project List is HUGE)

              • New Exterior
                New Windows
New Flooring for ~ 1,500sqft (possibly some subflooring as well)
New Bathroom - since its currently just studs
New Front Yard... currently weeds / dead things + fixing sprinkler lines / valves - stupid system - wish nest or someone had a nice web managed system... (saw one last year - too much money)
Roof - Repairs and better flashing all around
New Exterior Doors - going from several single pane glass doors to nicer Low-e

Mine keeps getting pushed off. Was going to England in May, that's been cancelled. Then was going to go to the Caribbean this year, had to cancel that too. I'm sticking to my guns about the Italy trip in the fall, though.

one of the main reasons we bought this house. An acre in the middle of city limits. Live oak tree and 4 pecan trees. And it's got a big office that in itself is a project I need to tackle. Dirty.

Tonight I did two disk space extensions where existing partitions had to be expanded in place. Then I got my girls to help me clean the house while the wife was out grocery shopping.

On Friday I wrapped up coding/testing on some new scripts for our shop floor production reporting system. It uses this proprietary language with a dialect similar to VB. One of my primary tasks was to modify our PO Receiving process so it utilizes ASN data from EDI-enabled vendors. Now, rather than operators having to type/scan details off the paperwork (and inevitably making mistakes), I coded it to automatically key the entire transaction based on an ID # that's scanned off our vendor's inventory barcode label. The operator's new procedure (at least for vendors we're receiving ASNs from) is to simply scan the barcode label, verify the data on the screen, our inventory label prints, and the transaction done. Should be very slick. I also did a number of workflow improvements based on feedback from the operators on the shop floor. All of this will roll out Tuesday morning. I did an overly cautious amount of testing so it should go well (knock on wood)

Also on Friday I received approval for a new phone system so I will be getting the ball rolling on that next week. We're going with Switchvox (commercial Asterisk system from Digium.) 50 handsets across the office and manufacturing plant. This will yield us about $1,000/month in immediate savings thanks to conversion from PRI to SIP trunking, elimination of backup analog lines for the PRI (because it randomly drops calls due to the poor quality of our underground copper lines which Ma Bell refuses to replace), and elimination of our third-party conferencing service. Should also be a fun project. I can't wait to get rid of our old Nortel BCM 400. This project will fully utilize last summer's project where we ran fibre backhauls from all the key points in our facility to the server room (eliminated all the daisy chaining between switches on Cat5), put new managed switches in all the locations, a new core switch, and implemented VLANs.
