When I run a Linux OS on my workstation, I prefer the latest stable Gnome DE

I need to replace my laptop (W 10) and want to go straight to linux. The only real need I have for Windows is my cable certification software and Hyper-V management. I plan on running W 10 as a vm when I need it.

Those of you on Gnome - Are you installing the gnome-tweaks package to allow desktop shortcuts, or just use keyboard shortcuts?

I have not installed gnome-tweaks. I just use keyboard and am happy with it.

Gnome tweaks yes, desktop shortcuts definitely not.

I have refrained from using shortcuts on the desktop but it still takes some getting used to. I am assuming that is one "advantage" of using Cinnamon.

                    Desktop shortcuts are fucking stupid..
I have 3 only because I've been too lazy to go into settings and remove the defaults.

@JaredBusch I agree. People will see my screens on various systems and ask me "where all my programs are". I don't see how some people can fill an entire desktop with icons.

Oh let me tell you about my Museum director. He has a 27" monitor that is absolutely full of files. There is not a single icon worth of space on his desktop. He refuses to put anything into a folder or organize. Yet he often complains about not being able to find certain files. I wonder why.

@JaredBusch Yes. Seems to be a common thing.

I'm running Pop_OS with Gnome. Over the last several months Gnome has grown on me.

@EddieJennings I've stuck with Fedora for a while now. I'm too lazy to "distro hop" and had some strange issues with Ubuntu on some of my HP machines. Haven't tried any other distro in a couple years. Definitely not Pop_OS. Apparently Arch is pretty popular now but I still won't switch any time soon.

I've distro-hopped back and forth between Pop_OS and Fedora. On my Lemur Pro, Fedora takes a good 10 extra seconds from boot to logged in, and I'm spoiled 😛

@EddieJennings I thought about buying one of their laptops but I will probably just buy a Dell/HP and load Fedora. Still can't decide.

I'm pleased with it. I also want to support their company, though I truly do feel more at home with an RPM-based distro 🙂

Is that brand comparable to Dell Latitude or Precision? Wife wants a new laptop soon so I have to decide on something. Was thinking about trying System 76.
