@pchiodo That's what @Dominica says, but she's actually serious and it is just a cover.

@DustinB3403 I think the bigger issue that they cannot resolve is that you can do a full install of windows in about 40 minutes, but the updates take 4-40 hours. How can this even be conceivable? They could wipe out the OS and reinstall in less time then the updates.

              40 hours? no way

              Seen it for sure.

Where? and with what Windows version?

              windows 10

Mm I guess we can move this discussion to another post. But in all seriousness it doesn't take that long to update Windows 10 unless you have a crippled hard drive and low resources computers. Even if you install Windows 10 1703 or 1670 now and then attempt to an upgrade it will bring you to 1809 directly either by the Media Creation Tool or Update Readiness tool. That doesn't take 40 hours, that at most takes 2 hours and plus 1 to 4 hours at most for updates.

Yeah we've not seen that anywhere here, and if anyone's hardware would do it, it'd be some of ours. Longest we've seen is an hour or so, but was definitely hardware related. We've updated hundreds of devices, not just a few, and haven't seen it.

I've also sat through long Fedora upgrades... so...

Nokia 8.1 Plus is the company’s most modern-looking phone yet

The latest leak shows Nokia can do modern design, hopefully at a good price point.

Since this is just a CAD file, the leak doesn't have any information on the price or specs, and we're not even sure if "Nokia 8.1 Plus" is the final name. What we can see, though, is a 6.22-inch display with a hole-punch design, a USB-C port, a bottom-firing speaker, a top headphone jack, a dual camera setup on the back, and a rear fingerprint reader. As usual, Nokia is part of the "Android One" program, which just means the phone has stock Android and a reliable update schedule.

2019 iPhones: Three new handsets, one with a triple-rear-camera setup

Apple may add and remove features in new iPhones to glean edge over competitors.

Apple's purported focus on cameras show it wants to keep the iPhone with rival smartphones that heavily emphasize the importance of photography chops. Many Android handsets, including Google's Pixel 3 XL, combine hardware and software to produce some of the best photos we've seen from any smartphone. Also, rivals including Samsung and Huawei continue to tweak the rear-camera setups on their flagships, putting triple- or quadruple-camera systems in some of the newest models.

I just noticed that there was an article about that on Spiceworks, but due to weird Twitter ad stuff, I can't see it.

Someone can likely search for it there. Francis had it on his twitter feed, that's how I know, because we follow each other.

VLC media player will add AirPlay support, soon reach three billion downloads

Developer Jean-Baptiste Kempf confirmed both milestones at CES.

The VLC development team added support for Chromecast, Google's AirPlay equivalent, in 2018. Apple has sometimes offered AirPlay on non-Apple devices before—on the Sonos One for example—but this year's CES has been marked by some notable expansions, particularly in televisions. Many new televisions from Samsung, LG, and others will now support AirPlay and some Apple services.

Apple’s HomePod officially goes on sale in China on January 18

Can Siri's smart speaker give Apple an edge in one of its most important markets?

Customers in China and Hong Kong have reportedly been able to snag HomePods from third-party sellers for some time. But now Apple will sell the smart speaker through its sanctioned channels in the region. The speaker won't come cheap, though—HomePod will cost RMB 2,799, or about $414 (in the US, it costs $349).
