How flexible are your hours?

Not flexible at all, but I don't ever work outside of 8:30 - 4:30 and I never work weekends.

My bosses are pretty flexible. When I was interviewed for this position, I told them, "I'm not your typical 8 to 5 worker. I understand stuff happens after hours and sometimes crap breaks at odd times. I'm totally okay with that. But that means you have you be okay with me being a few minutes late getting to work or getting back from lunch every now and again too."
So far, they've been pretty understanding when stuff happens. But I don't abuse it either.

I would have to say they are pretty flexible but I do not take advantage of it.

Salary does not mean you have to work for free. So you need to verify what your terms of hire were and do not do anything outside the terms without being compensated for it. Generally with a salary employee that does not get overtime, this comes as comptime.

Also just because you're salaried doesn't exclude you from over time pay (at least in NY) IT related jobs excluding management are required to pay over time.

My hours are whatever I want. Generally:
- start working around 9am or 10am and work until 1pm or so.
- Then I take lunch for an hour or so.
- Work until 3pm when the kids comes home and deal with homework and such for a bit.
- Go back to work and generally work until 6pm.
- Be with the family until they kids go to bed.
- work for an hour or two about 9pm
Generally come up a bit short of 8 hours a day. But I also do work on the weekends with maintenance windows and such.
I averaged 41.5 hours a week last year.

I generally am around 8am - 8/9pm during the week, and maybe a little on weekends... But I'm not pulling 12hour days, but I enjoy the flexibility and freedom that NTG offers.
But there is always that chance that the "All hands on deck" call will go out,.. so there is that. And Server Reboots are after 9pm generally. Clients have staff in all US Time Zones.

I get overtime. I do not operate my own business. I am a normal W2 employee with @Bundy-Associates.

Yeah, because you are a contractor, not an in house employee.
I'm curious though - Hey @scottalanmiller what kinds of benefits should wired be getting? Those of the City for whom he works 99.9% of the time, or those of his contracting company? I was always confused on where you stood on this.

I get overtime. I do not operate my own business. I am a normal W2 employee with @Bundy-Associates.

Interesting - I was pretty sure someone around these parts said you're not a professional unless you're putting in 48-60 hours a week. It's the nature of being a professional. Also the reason for being exempt Salary (meaning no OT). Not saying they were right or wrong, I'm saying this to spark conversation.

Exempt Salary (in NY) in relation to IT work is now solely on management. If you are working on a server, moving equipment etc you're entitled to Overtime.
So will ES does exist the overtime overs have no bearing on it. It a matter of the work you do according to that time, according to the insane-man who would say such a thing.
